Cyberpunk 2077 released on the 10th December, 2020. It was removed from the PlayStation Store eight days later, on the 18th December, 2020. Looking back at our news article on the removal, it's clear that we never expected the game to be missing for more than six whole months — but that's how long it's been.
Here we are, writing this on the 21st June 2021, and Cyberpunk 2077 has finally been reinstated on Sony's storefront. However, it's important to point out that the PS4 version still isn't "fixed" — not completely. The open world title still suffers from numerous bugs — some big, some small — and it still crashes every now and then. Overall, the game does run a hell of a lot better than it did at launch, but it's got a long way to go.
In fact, Sony has posted an official tweet on the matter, which you can find below. It states that "work on the PS4 version continues", and that we should expect "fixes and updates to be released throughout the year".
It also reiterates that "for the best experience on PlayStation, playing on PS4 Pro or PS5 consoles is recommended". Indeed, it's the base PS4 that still has the most trouble running Cyberpunk 2077 well, particularly in terms of performance.
But hey, at least it's back, right? For months now, developer CD Projekt Red has said that it's been in talks with Sony over the state of Cyberpunk 2077 and its eventual PlayStation Store return. Clearly, Sony thinks that the game's ready to be re-released.
Let's just hope that the Polish studio continues to improve the experience — especially as we creep closer to the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5. Speaking of which, now that the PS4 version is back, we wouldn't be surprised to hear more about its next-gen upgrade in the relatively near future.
Still, though, what a crazy six months it's been for everyone involved.

still going to patiently wait for the PS5 version or the PS5 version after they've released the PS5 version and then fixed the new PS5 version bugs so some time in 2022, should have bothered to get a refund
Cyber-what?! 🤔 oh yeah
I expect I will play Witcher III (PS5 upgrade) before I jump into CP77 – sounds like it still has quite a long way to go yet.
How much did they have to pay?
I've watched a video the other day, the game now runs at 25-30fps on PS4 instead of 15-20 when it released. Wonder what the reception of the game would have been if CPR would have just delayed the game for another 7 month
But tbf while the framerate has improved the town itself is still in lockdown (almost no npcs are running around)
tbh the discounted price is still more than i expected.
i thought it would sit around 39,99 instead of 49,99.
but that's just me though.
It's interesting that official Cyberpunk tweet doesn't mention playing the game on the base PS4, either.
I'm going to give it a try in the next few weeks. There has been a lot of fixes this year so hopefully it is much more stable.
still a heaping pile imo... hard pass.
And so the madness continues lol...
Oh Mass Effect Andromeda, please forgive gamers for trashing you and for defending this abomination.
Ah yes... £40 for junkware. A bargain for everyone.
@ShogunRok Do you think this will get a re-review at some stage like when the PS5 version arrives? I'd be interested to know what you guys think after all these "improvements".
@render Even if it were bug free, it's not a good game.
Not so easy to patch their reputation 😬
Roll on PS5 version and DLC 😎
I think I’ll wait for Cyberpunk 2082 to play on my brand new PS6 in 2031
Purchased, halfway a show of support half because I’ll definitely get it eventually and it was nice to come back not at full price.
@orson Thanks for the heads up. I've seen several other people say the same so I'm definitely leaning towards not bothering with this game.
Once the upgrade is out I will buy it on disc second hand. I originally had this preordered but am so glad I cancelled last minute.
Makes you wonder when on earth we'll see a next-gen version.
Wouldn't shock me if that gets delayed to 2022 and they focus on patching the last gen version.
Ok I confess I bought it before release date last year (per ordered) and fell for the hype. But come on this was the biggest game release like ever. Bigger than Red Dead Redemption 2, bigger than GTA V. And oh yes what a letdown. I did opt for the refund because I did think to myself how does this look so bad compared to Assassins Creed Valhalla, Call Of Duty Modern Warfare. So waited. Then waited and got news of it being put back on the PS Store. Then checked out Amazon and it’s was only £23.99. So birthday voucher put paid to that. Shame it’s still a hefty £39.99 but still beats the original £54.99 price when it was released. So now what I do think of it. It is brilliant but not without it problems. It still ain’t perfect. PS4 slim is now last gen, it will never be perfect. But the story, wow. V and Jonny Silverhand, it is a joy to be back in Night City. So keep the updates coming. Will keep playing this what could have the greatest game ever but it’s actually not bad. No awards from me but since December it is a lot better. Go get it folks, V is calling you. By the way November 17th 2020 was a good day cos it was the PS5 console launch but as yet Sony you’ve messed up with this launch in the UK. Still no stock and I’m not shelling out extra £200/300 just have one. Shame.
Any resolution fixes coming? 1080p on PS5 (972p - 1188p variable) seems pretty low
@render Yeah we'll review the PS5 version for sure. Might also do some kind of "re-review" for the PS4 version if it improves enough, but hard to say right now.
Purchase later down the year maybe but console version is still not the way to go right now
8 years in development.
6 months of being delisted and receiving fixes.
Gets relisted. Admits it's still broken and promising more fixes.
@frankmcma Any resolution fix probably won't come until the PS5 native version. The PS5 is piggybacking off the PS4 Pro due to back compact.
The fact that it says PS4 Pro or PS5 is recommended is actually embarrassing. I work on projects and non viable options get discarded. The PS4 was blatantly non viable and I just can’t get my head round how this has happened.
Anyone think there is a realistic chance the free ps5 upgrade comes before 2022?
@Alpine021 fairly easy to imagine:
DEV: “base PS4 doesn’t have the horsepower to run this game”
Marketting: “There are like 90-100 million people still on base ps4”
Executive: “Make it work on base ps4 or we won’t have money to pay you”
DEV: “you got it”
@Mega-Gazz Ha. But it’s either doable on the PS4 or it isn’t. I’d class doable as perfectly playable but maybe with the odd bug or in need of a patch or 2. Personally I’m totally against games releasing unfinished. I mean imagine buying a brand new car and you couldn’t open the boot or a brand new iPad and half the apps don’t work? What makes the game industry different to all others? Where else would you accept an unfinished product and it be acceptable to pay full price for it? Baffles me.
FYI. For those of you in the US, the PS4 disc (and Xbox) is $19.99 at Best Buy.
If the PS5 is available I reckon I'll get one and make use of that free next gen upgrade. Fingere crossed the game is a lot more stable when the PS5 version is released
Wish Bethesda had bothered to fix Skyrim & fallout
Has anyone here played the pc version? Assuming better visuals, more npc's and traffic? The core gameplay and mechanics are surely identical.
I do fear many people are holding out for a ps5 version that will still not live up to their expectations and the hate will start again.
For the record it's a good game, nowhere near a 10 (or a 3). Some great motion cap'd conversations, characters and excellent soundtrack
@awp69 Still too much.
@MatthewJP yea, but the interwebs doesn’t acknowledge the existence of numbers between 3 and 10.
@hulkie of course it will. The PS5 version will come out in December, get delisted a week later, then finally relisted June 2022.
What a complete nightmare it is to play this game for PlayStation users.
I had no major issues on a base ps4
@vict0RGM You should see the Xbox performance .. It's not these console's fault - it's the developer's. They deserve all the blame here.
I hope Sony isn't going to rely on that tweet to say that any unfortunate base-PS4 purchasers had fair warning of the game's performance...
People saying they had no issues on PS4 are lying simple as that. The game was unplayable on a base PS4 so how the hell could you not have issues? a prime example of spreading lies and misinformation at its finest if ever I did see it.
Great, but I still plan to buy a physical copy during Holiday sales, should be dirt cheap by then and get a free PS5 upgrade.
